Has FengShui Got To Do With Spiritualism or Religion?

Question:

My brother brought in a FengShui master, draped in a similar “Chinese Opera” costumes with YinYang symbols. He even has his eye-brow painted exactly like those from the opera. He uses a LuoPan but he seems not to use is to measure. He feels his way through the house liked he knows everything and the moment he spotted our Beemer, he said this to my brother that the house does not bring luck to the male occupants but to the female siblings. He continued to say that many things have to be modified including the ancestral tablet. Has FengShui got to do with Daoism Practice or Religion?

Answer:

The “master” that your brother has engaged are most likely from the Temple. They are mediums who can communicate with the paranormals, which we sometimes referred to as gods (small G). These are intuitive FengShui that based solely on paranormal means beyond our day to day logics. We do not doubt their efficacy and results. Neither do we question their abilities. However, we only keep in view of their ability for other means beyond the call of the five elements, for example, ghost busting, initiation of the altar and the statutes of the deities, prescribing talismanic cure for paranormal events in poltergeist and others. We called this services pertaining to the Dao of the Deities. We also use these services for house cleaning and so on, which we shall not discuss in detail, in this blog.

However, true FengShui practitioners, does not need to be:

1) Transform into an opera “singer”
2) Uses the LuoPan as an ornament, not a tool.

As we do not investigate your brother’s house FengShui, we reserved to comment on this aspect. But rest assured that FengShui and BaZi, do not involve religion or the practice of Daoism, spiritualism or medium. It is purely an art of the 5 elements so as similar to what being practiced in the Chinese traditional medicine or Chinese painting and calligraphy. However, in our case, the living environment becomes our canvas.

Old Master Vs Young Master, Who Is Better?

Question:

Wisdom grows with age. Should I consider an old practitioner or a young one? The young one may be inexperience when he has not even tasted the sweet and sour part of life, whereas the older ones may have, eaten more salt in his lifetime then, the younger ones eats rice in his lifetime.

Answer:

On one account, we were consulted about a young family, where the wife could not tolerate staying with her in-laws and wanted to move out. But strange occasions happened when his daughter at the tender age of 5 years old, told this to her mother, “… Mummy, we cannot move out away from Yeh-yeh (grandpa) and Mah-mah (grandmum). If we were to move out, the heart of love would be broken …” Hearing this from her daughter, the wife decided to stay on and make the better sides of people.

It is the stubbornness in us that made our heart hardened and it grows with age. Definitely not wisdom. So the practitioners these days, are not championed by a sole individual that appears to embrace Hero-worship, celebrity Master, He is holier then You and so forth, but by a coming together of liked minded people, who practices the art with sincerity and who also walks the path of Dao.

These are the group who has all layers of age differences eliminated, as they consist of practitioners of different ages and generations. Better, they are all well established on their own rights, with families, children, career, health and wealth. It is no longer an individual, but a collective whole.

Similarly so, with the genesis of the FengShui families.

Selecting A FengShui Practitioner

Question:

There are so many schools of FengShui out there. There are even more sub-school between them. How do I know if the master is genuine or not? Should I say, the reputable ones would be better?

Answer:

That is a profound question. No doubt there are many schools. Some are famous and some, you may not even have heard off. Are the famous one better or the not-so-famous, any inferior?

The famous one is not necessary better, neither are the not-so-famous one, any inferior. It all boils down to the practitioners. As long as his method brings result that is favorable, he is a genuine master, in regardless, what school or method he proclaims. Saying thus, it is difficult to “condemn” a practitioner based solely on his method that may not be “main-streamed”, as long as he is able to manifest positive results for you, as a consumer, that is what you want.

However, you may also want to know if the practitioners can provide you the followings: -

1) Measurable Results
2) Within a stipulated periods, or so.
3) Follow up services
4) Response to Your Needs

On a general account, genuine practitioners are normally well versed in the art of BaZi. He will usually read your BaZi first before attempting to correct your house FengShui. So, it is a good time, to test him out. If he just knows your character without going beyond that, then you may as well look for someone else.

Saying thus, he also relied heavily on the use of LuoPan. Because the LuoPan is his indispensable tool, it usually appeared to be seasoned and sometimes, worn out. Care must be taken to qualify such, as he could also take care of his tool so well that it always appeared new. More importantly, is his manner of using his LuoPan. If he flicks around without even knowing what to measure and appeared confused of how to measure liked taking the LuoPan above the chest level or holding it with only 3 fingers while on his right hand and poke around with his index finger, then there are probably something fishy going on.

Don’t ask him what method he uses. Probably you will not get a satisfactory answer from him. Don’t even bother to quote a piece of classical scripts and asked him to interpret it there and then as he most likely get annoyed and potentially doing something fatal, on bad faith, like dropping a “time-bomb” in disguise as a talismanic tissue paper in your yard.

Genuine practitioners will give you his opinion on the spot. However, he will not give you a solution on the spot, for fear of overlooking certained aspect of things, as Heaven, Earth and Man must all comes together. Sometimes, he may offer some light solutions liked, move your furniture here and there, but these must be taken as a temporary solution liked a Paracetamol in placed, for a minor headache.

Genuine practitioners will offer you a long term solution based on alternatives. No one solution is the same. Very often, the solutions will come together with its own caveat as to whom will the solutions affecting, when will it take place, how would one know if it has taken place, what to look out for when it takes place and so on. This is what we termed, managing Qi refurbishment. It is never a bed of roses and it involved a lot of commitment from both the consumer and the practitioners. Therefore, it will never be disclosed off on the spot.

The better way to go about in selecting a practitioner is to ask yourself, what sort of practitioners would you prefer? If you prefer the one that comes with the intuitions of Dao, go to the local Daoist temple. You will probably find a suitable one.

Otherwise a genuine one, who practices the art of Yi, is hard to come by. They do not need to make money out of this skill, he possessed. He doesn’t need to feed a group of salaried consultants to make ends meet. He is self sufficient on his own account, knowing well what Heavens and Earths had provided him with Health, Descendent and Wealth Luck, in accordance to his very own mold in accordance to his Destiny. If the affinity is there, he will be referred by someone who has tasted his elixir of gifts, which goes beyond to say, he doesn’t need to charge a hefty sum of his first audit and so forth.
